Los Angeles Superior Court implemented its
volunteer, intern & extern outreach programs in July 1982 and since has
become one of the largest in the nation. Volunteers, interns and externs log an
average of 8,000 hours per month in more than 30 program areas.
There are three types of unpaid programs which are the Volunteer Program,
Internship Program and Externship Program. These programs offer exposure to the
complexities of the judicial process. Entry level programs offer opportunities
to develop or strengthen each person’s abilities in areas such as document
filing, computers and customer service to those with minimal or no work
experience. Graduate or college students may assist with courtroom operations,
administration and/or operational support. Professional volunteers can assist
the Court in arbitration and mediation.
