Downtown Los Angeles Courthouses Open During May 1 ‘Great American Boycott’

The Los Angeles Police Department and Los Angeles Department of Transportation have provided advisements regarding travel to downtown Los Angeles on Tuesday, May 1, 2007.  The advisements have been provided to inform the community of an extraordinarily large demonstration and march.  Last year’s event attracted over 400,000 participants and it is estimated that this year’s crowds will meet or exceed that number.  The affected area is bordered by the 10, 101 and 110 freeways.

To that end, this Notice to Attorneys is being sent to those who plan on doing business on Tuesday, May 1, at the Stanley Mosk Courthouse, 111 N. Hill St., Los Angeles or the Clara Shortridge Foltz Criminal Justice Center, 210 W. Temple St., Los Angeles.

The court is scheduled to remain open during normal business hours on May 1.  Due to the anticipated crowds, you may experience difficulties traveling to either of the previously mentioned courthouses on that date.  If you have a document due to be submitted by May 1, you may wish to consider filing it a day early, on Monday, April 30, 2007.  If it is ready for filing but not due on May 1, you may wish to delay the filing to the following day.

Should you have questions, contact Central Civil Senior Administrator Art Acevedo at (213) 974-5201 or Central Criminal Senior Administrator Susan Cichy at (213) 974-6151.
